Section 01
Who we are and scope
Murika is a digital platform operated by Cybase Labs that connects creatives, clients, creative hubs, supporters, buyers, sellers, event audiences, and ecosystem partners. This Policy applies to Murika websites, applications, platform features, and related support services that link to it (collectively, the “Services”).
For the personal data described here, Murika generally determines why and how it is processed and acts as the data controller. Some users—such as sellers, employers, event organizers, or independent service providers—may separately control data they receive directly through a transaction or engagement.
Section 02
Personal data we collect
We collect data you provide, data created while you use Murika, and limited data from connected services.
- Account and contact data: name, username, email, telephone number, password credentials, account type, language, and authentication records.
- Profile and professional data: biography, photo, location, skills, categories, education, experience, availability, company information, services, rates, CV, portfolio files, social links, and public contact preferences.
- Activity and content: posts, comments, reactions, group activity, saved items, applications, proposals, messages, inquiries, reviews, reports, resources, event registrations, streams, and files you upload.
- Commerce data: cart, wishlist, orders, product or service details, delivery information, transaction references, payment status, refunds, and payout-related records. Payment providers process payment credentials under their own notices; Murika may receive status and reference data rather than full financial credentials.
- Verification and safety data: verification requests, supporting documents, status, moderation decisions, fraud signals, and communications with support.
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, language, pages viewed, referring links, timestamps, identifiers, diagnostics, and interactions collected through logs, cookies, local storage, and analytics.
- Connected-service data: basic account or social-profile information you authorize Google or a supported social network to provide. The exact fields depend on your choices and the provider’s permissions screen.
- Live-media permissions: camera, microphone, or screen content only when you choose a live or recording feature and grant browser permission.
Please do not submit sensitive information that is not required for a feature. If you provide personal data about another person, you must be authorized to do so.
Section 03
How and why we use data
We use personal data to:
- create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and maintain sessions;
- publish profiles and portfolios according to visibility choices;
- enable discovery, messaging, applications, hiring, reviews, communities, events, learning, streaming, marketplace orders, and payments;
- personalize and rank relevant content, talent, products, resources, or opportunities based on information such as categories, skills, activity, and location;
- provide support, send service messages, process transactions, and resolve disputes;
- verify users, enforce our Terms, moderate content, detect abuse, and protect Murika and its community;
- measure performance, troubleshoot, research, and improve the Services; and
- comply with legal, tax, accounting, regulatory, and law-enforcement obligations.
Legal grounds
Depending on the context, processing is based on performance of our contract with you, compliance with law, your consent, or legitimate interests such as platform security, service improvement, and preventing fraud—where those interests are not overridden by your rights. You may withdraw consent for future processing where consent is the basis.
Section 04
What other people can see
Murika is designed to make creative work discoverable. Information you mark public—or publish in public areas—may be viewed, copied, indexed by search engines, or shared by others. This can include your username, profile image, biography, location, skills, portfolio, services, posts, comments, reviews, social links, and public company details.
Private messages, unpublished drafts, payment details, and non-public account fields are not intended to appear publicly. Visibility controls reduce exposure inside Murika but cannot recall copies previously made by other people or external search services.
Section 07
Retention and security
We keep personal data only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including while your account is active and for periods required to complete transactions, maintain records, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Retention varies by data type and context. When data is no longer required, we delete, anonymize, or securely isolate it, subject to backup cycles and lawful exceptions.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including access controls and security monitoring. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your credentials confidential and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized account access.
Section 08
Storage and international transfers
Murika and its service providers may process or store data in Rwanda or other countries where they operate. Where personal data is transferred outside Rwanda, we use measures required by applicable law and assess appropriate protections. The laws in another country may differ from those in Rwanda.
Section 09
Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to or a copy of your personal data; correction; erasure; restriction; information about recipients and transfers; withdrawal of consent; or objection to certain processing. You may also have rights concerning data portability and decisions based solely on automated processing.
Many profile fields can be changed directly in account settings. For other requests, email contact@murika.rw. We may verify your identity and may retain information where the law permits or requires it. You may lodge a complaint with Rwanda’s Data Protection and Privacy Office if you believe your rights have been infringed.
Section 10
Children and legal capacity
Murika is not intended for a child to create an account or enter transactions without the involvement and authorization required by applicable law. If you are not legally able to agree to these terms on your own, a parent or legal guardian must review and authorize your use. Contact us if you believe a child’s data was provided improperly.
Section 11
Changes and contact
We may update this Policy as Murika, our practices, or legal requirements change. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice when a change is material. Your continued use after an update is subject to the revised Policy, where permitted by law.
